‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the Playhouse,

Not a creature was stirring – well, except for Home Stage’s Christmas crew…

Home Stage brings you something novel. An ingenious night of songs and stories, weaving together modern arrangements with centuries of festive tradition and music. This is a jam-packed feast of musical genres that completely reinvents the Christmas music scene.

Welcome to A Festive Folk Journey! Norwich Theatre Playhouse stage is decked, the scene is set and Home Stage’s Christmas performers are waiting. Four different acts will be performing, in house band Leap of Hare, the East Angles Brass Band, the ESChoir (Emergency Services Choir) and The Folk Club.

Imagine contemporary carol performances like you’ve never heard them; shanties, spookies, drinking songs, Czech gypsy jazz, Bossa novas, the spoken word, singalong tunes and more. All cunningly combined with traditional Christmas songs and stories by a range of bands, soloists, choirs and original pieces from Home Stage’s very own band led by trio Maddy Leedham, Florrie Crass and Mark Fawcett.

A night of stories awaits. Have you heard the real, grisly tale of Good King Wenceslas? Do you know where the Christmas tree originated? You must have heard I Saw Three Ships – but what was actually in those ships? You’ll soon find out.

The evening is an eclectic array of inventive musical fusions and storytelling, to help you refresh and celebrate the long-lasting spirit of Christmas.

Home Stage, an arts platform, is known for its community involvement in folk music and poetry. Whether they are showcasing emerging artists in their online interview series Tuesday Folk People and Meet the Poet, or engaging the growing creative community through specialist discussion groups, workshops and festival appearances, Home Stage’s initiatives enliven the folk music and poetry scenes. A true stalwart of the folk at the heart of the arts.

As a charity event, all profits go to support The North Norfolk Wheelyboat, North Norfolk respite breaks, and Home Stage’s creative writing support groups for isolated people.

Come to Norwich Theatre Playhouse for what promises to be a fantastic evening of festive delights celebrating centuries of bygone Christmases. Don’t miss A Festive Folk Journey!
