As July brings the start of summer, sunshine, and a colourful array of exciting new shows, we are excitedly getting ready to open our doors on Sun 24 Jul for our annual Open Day.

This year is particularly special as we were last able to run our open day in August 2019. Not only will it be fantastic to welcome the public into the Royal and Stage Two, but to showcase all of the wonderful things we’ve been able to do thanks to the support we received throughout the pandemic.

With so many amazing free activities planned for the day, where should you begin? Don’t worry – we’ve got a full rundown here to help you plan your day.

Doors open at 10am – If you need to plan where to park or which bus to hop on, click here. And don’t worry, Café Royal also opens at 10am, so you can start your Sunday with a coffee!

Explore what goes on behind the scenes – Guided tours will be running all day, starting from Box Office. You’ll go backstage at the biggest theatre in the region, have the chance to try your hand at some lighting, and even stand on the historic stage that has hosted so many iconic shows.

Panto, pics and prizes – Whilst you’re on stage, don’t forget to snap a picture next to our beanstalk and enter it into our completion for a chance to win VIP panto tickets. Or why not grab a map from Box Office and set out on our theatre explorers trail to find our hidden Jack and the Beanstalk checkpoints. Submit your map at the end of the day for the chance to win another GIANT prize…

Fancy some face paint? – We’ll be offering free face painting for the kids on Open Day from midday until 2pm. Get them into the theatrical spirit as they pick what they’d like to be – a fairy, tiger, dinosaur or even a bunny rabbit! Once they’ve got into character, pop into Studio 1 to try on costumes, get crafting or even make a puppet show.

Tummies rumbling, time for lunch – Pop to Café Royal at lunchtime for a delicious selection of paninis, wraps, salads and sweet treats. And if food is still on your mind, why not visit our restaurant Prelude to meet Head Chef, Jesús, and check out the pre-theatre menu.

There’s more upstairs! Don’t forget to head to the first floor to delve into our archive of over 200 years of Norwich Theatre history. Or pop into the Long Bar to explore some of our previous projects working with refugees as part of our Theatre of Sanctuary status.

Get hands-on with some free activities. Whilst you’re there, why not visit our Words of Hope and Sanctuary session and hand print a message of hope for our windows. You can also try on some of our dazzling panto costumes in our costume display and catwalk.

Wait… before you go! Talk to our box office about the amazing shows we have coming up and bag your tickets before they sell out. You can even chat to our team about joining our Friends Scheme, offering priority booking, discounts and more from just £25 a year.

Wave goodbye at 3pm when our doors will close on our 2022 open day. We hope you have a fabulous and action-packed day and look forward to welcoming you back for your next show!
