Are you missing the summer and the heat on your skin already? Well, don’t worry, the smash-hit musical Mamma Mia! is bringing all the sun of a Greek Island to Norwich Theatre Royal from 4 – 22 Oct.
Mamma Mia! is a Super Trouper show seen by more than 65 million people worldwide, in 50 productions and 16 different languages since it premiered in London in April 1999. Not to mention the two blockbuster films.
Judy Craymer, Creator and Producer of MAMMA MIA!, spoke of the new tour: “I’m really excited that MAMMA MIA! will be touring the UK once again. We can’t wait to bring the feel-good story and much-loved music of ABBA to new and returning audiences.”
This charming and upbeat show tells the story of Sophie’s quest to discover the father she’s never known. It brings her mother face to face with three men from her distant romantic past on the eve of Sophie’s wedding.
The tale of love, friendship and identity is irresistibly told through the timeless hits of ABBA. “I was fascinated that Björn had written these lyrics. They meant so much, and they were about strong women. They take you on a journey. And that was the beginning of me falling in love with those songs,” said Judy.
“They spoke to me as theatre songs. You’d be lucky to have two like that in a musical, let alone 20. So I started thinking about how to turn them into narrative.”
You will hear all your favourite ABBA songs from Dancing Queen, Waterloo and let’s not forget Mamma Mia. Be prepared to sing along but be warned, you will leave with them stuck in your head!
