The safety of everyone who works at or visits Norwich Theatre and its three venues is of paramount importance and as an organisation we stand firm in our support of all efforts to combat COVID-19.

We are pleased that in light of the advice to the public issued by the Government yesterday, and in line with contingency plans already in place, Norwich Theatre’s three Christmas shows – Robin Good at the Playhouse which opened last night, Dick Whittington and his Cat at Theatre Royal which opens on 11 December and Jack Frost opening on 18 December in Stage Two – are still able to go ahead, with the implementation of the new measures that apply to us.

These includes mandatory face masks for customers and visitors, except for those under the age of 11 or who are medically exempt. Masks must now be worn at all times in our theatre buildings – including Café Royal, at the Playhouse Bar and Theatre Royal Bars, Prelude restaurant and in the auditoria – except when eating or drinking. All of our staff will continue to wear masks in public areas.

Masks are now mandatory for customers and visitors, except those under the age of 11 or who are medically exempt. This applies at all times in all our venues and all of our staff will also continue to wear masks in public areas.

The Government announced the introduction of the NHS COVID pass as part of the new regulations, however it will not cover seated theatres and so will not apply to Norwich Theatre venues. We will therefore not be instigating pass checks as part of our COVID security measures at this time.

We have enjoyed welcoming many of you back since we re-opened in September and we have your safety and your trust foremost in our minds. We have implemented a robust set of COVID-secure modifications, including installing a misting system into the roof at Norwich Theatre Royal to sanitise the auditorium between performances. Our pantomime casts and crews are ‘bubbled’ and backstage the theatre is zoned to keep performers, crew and audiences safe. Between the front door and your seats we have made a huge effort, with hand sanitisers, enhanced cleaning, air purifiers and the tireless work of our staff, to make you feel both safe and warmly welcome.

We are confident that we can ensure that the Government’s new measures will not dampen festive spirits and we thank all our visitors and customers for your support.
